Matthew's Story

Matthew started at Bona Vista Programs when he was 4 years old. He began in our special education preschool program. He also was receiving occupational and speech therapy and later started ABA therapy.

In the beginning Matthew was unable to attend to task independently, label letters and sounds and play appropriately with his peers. He often would become very upset when anything would not go his way. He needed prompts to start or complete activities and play appropriately with his peers.

Matthew began making progress with the help of his licensed special education teacher and his therapists at Bona Vista's Positive Results For Kids. At the end of the school year he had successfully transitioned into a general education classroom. Matthew is also now able to follow a routine, complete activities on his own or with minimal prompts, write his name and he can follow all classroom rules and commands from his now typical education preschool teacher. He participates with the rest of his class and in various groups. He is social and playing appropriately with his peers.
